The conversation led Natasha Briški, journalist and versatile media creator, and the interlocutors were Andraž Tori(Teads) in Andraz Logar(3fs), a long-time connoisseur of technological development and digital ecosystems and a member of the Slovenian Technology Forum.
From the outset, it was clear that these were interlocutors who followed the technology not only as users, but as active co-creators of the space in which we live today. Both belong to a generation that has experienced the transition from BBS-systems and modems to the mobile revolution, cloud services and artificial intelligence.
From early digitization to the explosion of artificial intelligence
The discussion touched on the beginnings of digital culture in Slovenia, when technology was primarily a matter of access and understanding, but today it has become a fundamental infrastructure of society. Andraž Tori stressed the continuity of development:
“Looking at it from a macro perspective, the underlying trends haven't changed significantly — they've changed speed and scale. What has happened in recent years with artificial intelligence is an explosion that no one really anticipated.”
In particular, he highlighted turning points such as the commercialization of the Internet, the rise of cloud technologies and the mobile revolution, which for the first time allowed the individual to access almost unlimited processing power and information.
Digitalization: between illusion and reality
An important part of the conversation was devoted to understanding digitalization in the Slovenian space. Andraž Logar pointed out a marked gap between the most exposed companies and the actual state of digital processes:
“In Slovenia, we have a big gap between companies that really understand digitization and those that perceive it as sending a PDF by e-mail. It's not a digital transformation, it's just a digital facade.”
He stressed that the problem is not only in companies, but also in the system environment, regulation and the role of the state, which often complicates processes excessively instead of allowing the gradual and user-friendly introduction of new technologies.
Courage as a key missing element
They agreed that technological backwardness is not necessarily due to a lack of knowledge or access, but above all to a lack of courage to make strategic decisions. In doing so, Tori highlighted a broader social problem:
“Our challenge is that we don't have big enough problems to force us to step out of the comfort zone. Instead of solving only local challenges, we should ask ourselves what problems we can solve for the whole world.”
The debate about artificial intelligence has revealed two sides: skepticism about fragmented and undernourished public initiatives, and at the same time the awareness that it is a technology that will inevitably transform all levels of society.
Bet on the future
Reflecting on the role of the state, Logar pointed out that complete solutions do not exist and that excessive caution is often a greater obstacle than risk alone:
“If we believe AI is the technology that will transform society the most, then it's up to the state to tackle it with determination — even if it doesn't know exactly how people will use it.”
Both interlocutors agreed that without bold decisions, Slovenia risks further widening the gap behind the most technologically developed environments.
Looking Ahead: Energy, Work and New Social Relationships
In conclusion, the conversation went even further into the future - to the issues of the energy revolution, the automation of intellectual work and the paradox that artificial intelligence first encroached precisely on those areas that were considered the most safe from automation. The debate did not offer unambiguous answers, but it made it clear that technological evolution is no longer technical, but above all social and political issue.
At the Evolution Festival, this conversation confirmed the role of space, where technology is not seen as a buzzword, but as a process that requires reflection, responsibility and, above all, courage.
