The hackathon with the longest tradition in Slovenia, dating back to 2015, was held for the eleventh year in a row. The Faculty of Computer Science and Informatics brought together more than 250 creators of the future of the Slovenian and international technology scene.
According to Tilen Kavčič from Outfit7:”DragonHack is a space for young talents who, with innovation, courage and team spirit, co-create the future of the tech world. They are not afraid of challenges, they are enthusiastic about solutions and go beyond the box with their energy. We have worked with DragonHack for many years because we believe in the power of community, connection and the unlimited potential of students. Events like this push boundaries — and pull us all forward!”
About DragonHack
Every year, the 24-hour Innovation Marathon brings together engineers and developers who compete to develop innovative solutions. Participants have an exceptional opportunity to work with the most advanced technologies, connect with leading companies in the technology industry, improve their technical skills and create new professional friendships.
Teams of three to four students develop a wide range of projects, from web and mobile applications, to games and advanced technologies such as machine learning. The event also offers educational workshops and lectures led by leading industry experts, as well as fun activities that further fuel the hackathon atmosphere.
For the first time, the event was also supported by the companies DevRev and Better.
Eva Cvelbar, from DevRev:”They came, they saw, they won. DragonHack opened the world of the Slovenian hackathon scene to us, where we were impressed by the incredible energy of young talents. From learning at the event, to hanging out with the organizers, other companies and the vibrant hacker community - it was all more than just a hackathon. For us, DragonHack represents a community, not just an individual moment.”
Ani Subotić, from Better:”This was our first participation in DragonHack and we thoroughly enjoyed the energy, creativity and motivation throughout the event.”
Membership in the international organization MLH
DragonHack is a member of the international Major League Hacking League (MLH), which brings together hackathons around the world and supports more than 300 events in more than 90 countries each year, with a total participation of more than 500,000 developers. Also this year, it was attended by its representatives, who praised the organization and execution of this remarkable event.
Teams that exceed expectations
The winners were selected by experienced experts: Jasna Krmelj, co-founder and technical director of Gentler Stories; Miha Medven, an expert in software engineering with more than a decade of experience in industries, and Boštjan Slivnik, specializing in translation of programming languages and parallel programming.
163 participants competed for prizes and recognition of the largest technology companies. The victory was celebrated by the Breakpoint team with Matej Rupnik, Vanet Skubic and Jerne Fortuna, who developed a system for passive hole detection and road quality assessment using the accelerator in the phone. We believe that this type of application would be needed by everyone.
The second place was won by the BurazTorek team with the Lok8 application for smart skateboarding, which uses motion sensors and artificial intelligence for real-time analysis.
According to Teja Bremec of HYCU”DragonHack exceeds expectations every year! They impress students with creativity, innovation and fearless enthusiasm. Bravo students, partners and thanks to the organizers for 11 years of inspiration!“
