At the Slovenian Technology Forum (STF), we believe that this is one of the key moments for the future of the European Innovation Area — and an opportunity for Slovenia to clearly and decisively support reforms that will enable faster business growth, more investment and a stronger single market.
The Single Market as an Engine for Innovation and Growth
In an invitation to the leaders of the Member States, António Costa, President of the European Council stressed that the single market must become a stronger factor of simplification for citizens and businesses. The European Union needs to tackle national barriers more effectively and create a regulatory framework that is more conducive to investment, innovation and growth.
A special role is played by the proposal to introduce a new 28th regime, which would make it easier for companies to expand on the European market and reduce administrative burdens. At the same time, accelerating the Savings and Investment Union is key to better channelling European savings into productive investment.
The European Council will also address key issues:
• how to complete the creation of a genuine single market;
• how to encourage companies to invest more and innovate in key sectors
• how to ensure a more favourable regulatory environment for businesses,
• and what role the 28th regime can play in this.
Appeal to the Slovenian government: time for clear support for reforms
The Slovenian Technology Forum is therefore hosted by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, dr. Robert Goloba, addressed a call for Slovenia to strongly support key European reforms at the upcoming European Council meeting.
We expect Slovenia to support all priority activities and proposals that lead to:
• a real breakthrough in the creation of a Capital Markets Union,
• the creation of the European Union of Savings and Investment,
• the introduction of the 28th regime or the possibility of establishing a pan-European legal entity;
• Simplifying the regulatory environment for businesses.
Such measures are not an abstract European agenda, but a concrete opportunity for Slovenian companies — especially high-tech, development-oriented and export-oriented companies and start-ups, which are the foundation of the future competitiveness of the Slovenian economy.
