We talked about the situation, challenges and opportunities for a more efficient, attractive and dynamic capital market in Slovenia and Europe - a market that will favor investments in development projects and bring higher added value.
We stressed the need for greater ambition in adopting changes and simplifying the procedures for raising capital by Slovenian and European institutions. The same applies to the greater flexibility of all those who create and make decisions, and to the system as a whole.
We agreed that financial literacy in today's world of classic and digital solutions in financial markets is one of the priorities that we as a country, society and individuals should internalize and devote much more attention and time to. Knowledge is an advantage, but Slovenia is currently not achieving the best results in financial literacy.
We concluded the discussion by discussing the challenges and emerging strategy for the European capital market and the solutions that would contribute to increasing the competitiveness of the European capital market. Europe and its people are prone to greater conservatism, restraint and even resistance to risk taking (risk aversion).
We recently discussed all this at the Financial Markets Directorate of the Ministry of Finance, and we agreed to continue the dialogue aimed at finding the best solutions for the implementation of the Capital Market Development Strategy in Slovenia and for the formation of the Capital Markets Union.

The objective of the Capital Markets Union initiative (orig. CMU) is to create a truly integrated capital market in the EU. Although much progress has been made in developing and integrating the financial sector and EU capital markets, CMU still has untapped potential. Therefore, the further development and integration of EU capital markets to improve citizens' access to investment opportunities and businesses' access to finance must remain among the most important policy priorities in the coming years.
